Carolina Lilies birthday block exchange

Posted Tuesday, March 30th, 2010 in Quilt Blocks, Quilting | Read More

I am in an online birthday block exchange called Carolina Lilies. I plan to take  pictures of the blocks that I make and post them here.

Most of the patterns we have chosen can be found at www.quilterscache.com

We have two January birthdays. The first blocks are called Friendship Scrap Block.

This block is called Ohio Star.

Each person in the exchange chooses the block, size, and colors they would like to get.

This is the block for the February birthday. The block name is London Square. I made two blocks because I had the two large triangles left over  and I wanted to use them.

The next block is for the March birthday. The block is called Dewey Dream. We could make this in either red or green with a white background.

The next block is for an April birthday. The name of the block is Aunt Eliza’s Star. The  recipient requested oranges and blues. The colors in the picture are  brighter than the actual block.

April 2010 Table Runner

Posted Saturday, March 20th, 2010 in Quilting | Read More

Again, I have made changes to the pattern. The pattern calls for blue squares for the center section with the appliqued bunnies, and tan/beige squares for the border. In the border, the pattern has an Easter egg appliqued to each square. I used the tan squares in the center with the bunnies and a charm pack (Birdie by Moda) for the squares instead of appliqued eggs.

Log Cabin Hidden Stars

Posted Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 in Fabrics, Family, jelly roll, My Projects, Patterns, Quilting | Read More

This log cabin quilt was made from one “American Primer” jelly roll and 1 3/4 yards of fabric for the stars and border. The jelly roll was given to me for Christmas in 2008 by Jennifer and Tristan along with the book, “Jelly Roll Quilts” which contains the  Log Cabin Hidden Stars pattern.

I am always reluctant to take  jelly rolls apart, therefore, it took me over a year to start this quilt. The quilt went together very quickly after I finally took the ribbon off and separated the strips into lights and darks.

TOR Birthday Block Exchange

Posted Sunday, March 7th, 2010 in Quilt Blocks, Quilting | Read More

I belong to two internet birthday block exchanges this year (2010). I blogged about the exchange at the “Quilt Forum” earlier this year and have updated it each month as I finish the block. This is the first birthday block for the exchange at “The Other Room” forum. The recipient asked for an Amish block in plain colors. I chose Amish Diamond for the block and used plain fabrics that I had left from an Amish quilt I made and gave to Jeff.

This is the second block for this exchange. The birthday person asked for white on white with a plain white background. I put it on a piece of red fabric to photograph it so it could be seen on my pale ironing board cover. The name of this block is Patience Corners.

OH-MI Shop Hop Prize

Posted Saturday, March 6th, 2010 in Quilting | Read More

This week I received a call from Threads of Tradition quilt shop at Sauder Village saying that I won a prize from the shop hop last weekend. My friend Carol also won a prize. This morning we went to Archbold to pick up our prizes and, of course, to shop. Carol won a Moda tin with a “sweet roll”, a rotary cutter, and some other items. My prize included a book, “One-Block Wonder Encore”, a quilt pattern, seam ripper, rotary blades, thread, a small cutting mat, and a “Fiber & Fabric Mania! Travel Guide” book.

Today I bought some fabric I needed for my birthday block exhange and also a pattern that I saw on the hop last week but didn’t buy.  Carol bought fabric to go with the sweet roll of fabric that was in her prize box.

This is my prize package.

MY LUCKY DAY AT QUILT GUILD

Posted Thursday, March 4th, 2010 in Quilt Guilds, Quilting | Read More

Last night Pat Speth was the guest speaker at the Appleseed Quilters Guild meeting.  She presented a very interesting program, showing  many quilts made from five inch squares of fabric. She has had several books and patterns published with her quilt designs. Pat donated some of her quilt patterns to the guild for door prizes and I was one of the lucky winners.

I purchased a raffle ticket for the monthly mini, as I do each month, and was  the winner of  a very colorful wall quilt made by Mary Ann Skinner. I used the new quilt hangers that Jen and Tristan gave me for Christmas to hang it near the back entrance of my home.
