Saturday Afternoon Project

I bought the first issue of Quilting Quickly by Jenny Doan this week. As I was reading it today, I found a pattern for a Valentine’s Day table runner. I shopped in my stash and pulled out five red fabrics. I had a piece of leftover white fabric sitting on my cutting table that was just the right size for this project. I plan it quilt it with red thread in an over all meander pattern.

Happy Quilting Quilt-Along

I finished the Modern Row Robin quilt-along last week. My friend Kris told me of a new quilt-along that started this week. This is called Happy Quilting Quilt-Along. We are making 6 different stars in all, with 2 new stars introduced each week.

My plans are to make a table runner with the six different stars. The pattern calls for sashing around each block which is then cut at an angle to make the blocks “wonky”. Because I want to make a smaller project, I am not going to make my blocks “wonky”.

I have completed the first 2 blocks. Directions are given for each star in five different sizes. I chose the smallest size, 9 inch blocks.

Moda Essence Table Runner

I saw a table runner made from the Essence panel by Moda on the shop hop in February 2011.  I had used the same panel to make a quilt in November 2009 and had some left over fabrics.  The pattern was one of the patterns we were given on the shop hop in 2010. I bought the Essence panel and fabric from another line for the background. When I was ready to start cutting out the table runner, I couldn’t find my pattern. (I think I lost it when I was at the quilt shop last week.) I looked up the pattern on line and drew it in EQ7.  This is what I created…

I have four squares left from the panel. I am making four placemats with the rest of the scraps.

November and December Table Runners

I didn’t have time to work on the last two runners until after the  Christmas holidays.  Bob gave me an Accuquilt Go cutter for Christmas and the die that came with it has a 4 1/2  inch square. That is the size I use for the blocks in the center and borders of the runners. I still have to stitch the appliques and quilt them but here are pictures of the unfinished table runners.

Table Runner September 2010

This is the table runner for September. I did not put the appliques in the border squares as suggested in the pattern. I thought of scattering swirls or leaves in the border but decided not to add anything .

August Table Runner – 2010

This is the unfinished table runner for August. I have to stitch the appliques to the background and then quilt it. The colors are not showing true. Some of the borders squares appear blue, but are a dark green and the asparagus is  a green fabric.

This is the July table runner from the Calendar Table Runners pattern that I have been using all year. This month I followed the pattern suggestions for all the colors and appliques. I have a piece of fabric for the backing that has red and blue stars on a white background.

This is the table runner for May. I will stitch around the applique before I quilt it. My plans for quilting are to meander with a light color thread.

Mystery Table Runner

I made this table runner when I was teaching a mystery class at Piecemakers Quilt Group last year. It is rather large and if I were to do it again, I would not add the borders or  would make smaller blocks.
