2011 Relay for Life Quilt

Posted Wednesday, May 4th, 2011 in jelly roll, Layer Cake, Piecemakers Quilt Group, Quilting | Read More

Every year Piecemakers quilt group makes a quilt to be raffled for Relay for Life under the leadership of Colleen. This year we each made two 12 inch “Sister’s Choice” blocks and Colleen put them together with sashing between the blocks and around the outside edge. She brought the completed quilt top to me Sunday afternoon to be quilted. I loaded it on my quilt frame on Monday and quilted it today. Colleen will add the binding and hand stitch it to the back of the quilt.

The quilt group will have a booth at the Buckeye Heritage Festival in Hicksville on May 20, 21, and 22 to display the quilt and sell tickets. We will also do demonstrations in the booth such as hand stitching binding on a quilt.

This is a  picture of the Relay quilt  with all the extra backing and batting still attached to the sides.

I will post another picture when the quilt is finished.

Three projects from one Layer Cake

Posted Monday, March 14th, 2011 in Layer Cake, Quilting | Read More

I made a large Twister quilt, Lil’ Twister quilt, and a mini quilt from one layer cake. When I finished cutting out  the Lil’ Twister quilt, I had small squares left between the blocks. When I squared them up, I had 1 3/4 inch squares. I sewed them together in the same order as the Twister quilts and added a plain green 3/4 inch border and then a 1 1/4 inch border of print fabric.

I have shown the first two quilts in previous posts. Here they are with the Mini Quilt.

Large Twister:  65″ square

Lil’ Twister: 25 1/2 ” square

Mini Quilt: 11 1/2″  square

Close up of Mini Quilt:

I have had fun using every bit of fabric from the Layer Cake.
